In 1929 he moved to a farm near Alden. His wife was Vera Dale Bosteter. He also ran a small sawmill as a hobby. Maltbie spent his winters in Nyland, California. He died 8 Apr 1990 in Albert Lea, Freeborn Co, MN. He is survived by a son Richard of Alden and three grandchildren. He and wife Vera divorced 17 Dec 1973.
