Mrs. Hawkey and her husband, and government attache to the War Department were living on the east coast when he died suddenly. Instead of returning home and becoming a burden to her family, she moved to California and was trained by the state as a Nurse living in Turlock and Modesto. Death was from the result of a stroke she suffered. Survived by children.
