James Wesley Lester and Sarah Ann Devoe met in Iowa and were married July 31, 1841. Their family included nine children. All of the family traveled from Iowa to New York where they boarded a boat and sailed around Cape Horn to San Francisco in 1864. The family settled in the California central valley.
