HOPE MILLS -- Harold DeVere Black, 81, of Hope Mills died Wednesday in Carrolton of Fayetteville nursing home.
He retired after 32 years as a firefighter for the city of Fayetteville and was a free-lance photographer for WRAL News in Raleigh.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Rogers & Breece Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville by the Rev. T.J. Fulk. Burial will be in Cross Creek Cemetery No. 4 in Fayetteville.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Marion K. Black of the home; a son, Wayne Black of Vander; a stepdaughter, Sara ''Sue'' Smith of Beesville, W.Va.; two stepsons, James W. Gillis of Koshiba, Japan, and David L. Gillis of Fayetteville; two grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren;and four step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
