Louie Raymond McLain was the son of Samuel Houston McLain and Lula Mae Peebles McLain (both buried at Citizens Cem., Fort Gibson, OK). He was part Cherokee. He was born in Ft. Gibson, OK, and lived in that area as well as Muskogee, OK. He married Gladys Marie Post (Huitt) and they had two children: Nadine Lynn McLain Shiew and Roger Allen McLain.

He had two daughters from his first marriage to Willie Hulda: Mary McLain Downing and Carol McLain Holland. He also raised two step-children: Alice Faye Huitt Preston and Jerry Richard Huitt.

He was a caretaker for over 25 years at the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, and was still working at the time of his death of a massive heart attack. He was a tall man with black hair and brown eyes who liked to smoke cigars.

He was a veteran of WWII, Seaman First Class in the Navy having served time aboard ship in North Africa.

His siblings include: Jess McLain, Howard McLain, Evelyn McLain Delcour Carron, Helen McLain Gaskin, Nancy McLain Walker Smith, and Lois McLain West.
