Funeral services were held for William Edgar Jones at the Steffenville Union Church Sunday afternoon, April 8, with Rev. George Elledge of Hannibal officiating. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Feigenspan sang, accompanied by John Gross at the piano.
Pall bearers were Ralph Jones, Jim Jones, Alpha Jones, Paul Secriat, Joe Steffan and Arthur Gunnell. Burial was in the Steffenville cemetery.
Mr. Jones was the son of John Robert and Jennie Lee Jones, and was born Sept. 7, 1870, in Shelby county, Mo., and died April 6, 1956, at the age of 85 years.
He married to Henrietta Walters Aug. 12, 1891. To them nine children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, three children and several brothers and sisters.
His leaves to mourn his passing, six children, Mrs. Bernice Hunsaker and Mrs. Elizabeth Bauerrichter, of Marion, Ia., Mrs. Virginia Hill of Springfield, Mo., Preston Jones and Lloyd Jones of Bellingham, Wash., and George Jones of Ewing, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Nettie Jones of Shelbyville, Mrs. Geneva Daugherty of Livingston, Mont., Mrs. Alma Cross of Slater, Mo., and Mrs. Nellie Merrit of Higginsville, Mo.; two brothers, Warren Jones of Kansas City and Howard Jones of Kirksville.
In early life he professed faith in Christ and was a charter member of the Harmony Grove Baptist church of which he remained a member the rest of his life.
Mr. Jones, with his family, moved to the present home near Steffenville 39 years ago where he had lived until his death.
"Uncle Bill" as he was familiarly know, was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and a friend to all who knew him.
