Alpha Wayne Holderfield "Bub"
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Happy Hill Baptist Church for Mr. Alpha Wayne "Bub" Holderfield, 82, Sardis, who died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center, Birmingham, following a brief illness. Bro. Alan Hallmark and Bro. Steve Young will officiate. Interment will be in Happy Hill Cemetery. McRae Funeral Home, Boaz, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Holderfield was born Aug. 16, 1927, to the late T.J. and Eula Holderfield. He was a lifelong resident of the Happy Hill community, an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing and other activities. He was a member of Happy Hill Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Boaz.
Mr. Holderfield was preceded in death by son, Donnie Holderfield; and the mother of his children, Claudia (Morris) Holderfield.
Mr. Holderfield is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, David Holderfield, Daron and Sarah Holderfield, all of Sardis; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Robert Samples, Sardis; grandchildren, Mylina (Samples) Dillard, Amy (Holderfield) Smith, Nathan Samples, Matt Holderfield, Chad Holderfield and Andrew Holderfield; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; many other relatives and friends; and sisters and brother-in-law, Willene Williamson, Florine Tidwell and Beatrice and Billy Allen, all of Boaz.
Pallbearers will be Matt Holderfield, Chad Holderfield, Andrew Holderfield, Kevin Smith, Nathan Samples, Zachery Stanfield, Mike Tidwell and Neal Allen.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Mr. Holderfield will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
