JOPLIN, MO — Hazel D. Bigbee, age 86, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at her home following an illness. Hazel was born on June 21, 1924, in Newtonia, Mo., to Fred and Mittie (Hansford) Ramsour. She has been a lifetime area resident. Hazel married Archie L. Bigbee, on June 29, 1946, in Columbus, Kan., soon after his return from World War II after serving in New Guinea with the 389th AAA gun brigade. During the war, Hazel worked for Miller Manufacturing Company making Army uniforms. After that she was employed by Elder Manufacturing in Carl Junction, Mo.. and Gaswick Bag Company, retiring in 1985. Hazel and Archie both loved to fish and camp on weekends at Twin Bridges, after retirement they had their own place on Grand Lake and spent a great deal of time there. They loved having outside fish fries for neighbors, relatives and friends. Due to Archie¹s health they gave up the lake in 1995. Archie preceded Hazel in death on June 12, 1998. Her parents; one brother, Glen Ramsour; and one sister, Joanne Martin also preceded her in death. Survivors include; two sisters, Wilma Bandy, Joplin, and Donna Gourley, Holister, Mo.; two brothers, Donald Ramsour, Buena Vista, Colo., and Fred Ramsour, Castle Rock, Colo.; and one very special niece, Darla Perdew and husband, Jack, of Pea Ridge, Ark., who were her caregivers. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. The pallbearers will be Jack Perdew, Marvin Doke, Jim Bandy, Terry Bandy, Mike Sweeney and Donald Bigbee. Memorial contributions may be given to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.
