Son of John M. Anderson and Rebecca J. Spurlock, husband of Minnie Elizabeth Ashford. After his father left his mother for another woman, they went to live with Nancy Herriman Spurlock who was his maternal grandmother. He continued to live and care for Nancy even after the death of his mother and his subsequent marriage to Minnie. He always told people that his father John had 7 wives and lived to be a 100 years old.
