Edward Leroy "Teddy" Strong enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 2, 1940. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Services were held Sunday, October 3, 1948 at 10 a.m., at the Jessen Funeral Home in Ainsworth, Nebraska for Technician Fourth Grace Edward L. Strong, U.S. Army Ground Forces.

His body was returned from the Pacific area to Ainsworth in accordance with a request of his mother, Mrs. Nellie Pearl Strong.

Full military graveside honors were conducted by the Brown County Post No 79, American Legion at Mount Hope Cemetery north of Springview, Nebraska.

Edward Leroy Strong, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Everett Strong, was born June 3, 1922 in Springfield, Missouri. He departed this life June 2, 1943 at the age of 20 years, 11 months and 30 days.

When about six months of age, he moved with his parents to Springview. He attended the public schools at Springview and made that his home until he entered the service in 1940.

He served in the United States Army. He was serving with the 17th Infantry Regiment of the 7th Division when he was wounded by enemy shell fire the 28th day of May, 1943, and died of those wounds four days later while enroute to an army hospital.

He was preceded in death by his father and leaves to mourn his passing his mother, four sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Henry Propst; Earl Strong; Mrs. Jake Dillon; Virgil Strong; Mrs. Dennis Finley; Donald Strong; and Mrs. Harlan Lantz.
