Amos was the son of John Abbot and Betsy, born and raised in Holden, MA. He married Sarah Martin there, on 18 Sep 1816. They removed to Washington Village in Berkshire Co., where Amos farmed. They had at least four children: Hannah (b. ~1822), Martin (b. ~1829), George (b. ~1831), and Charles (b. ~1838).
Four years after Sarah's death in 1857, Amos married second, the widow Fanny (Fanning) Prentice, on 20 Jun 1861, in Washington, MA. Two and a half years after Fanny died, Amos got married a third time, to the widow Abigail M. (Lester) Joy on 4 Oct 1867, in Becket, MA.
