Robert Sterrett Neeley was born to Jane Sterrett (1793 - 1864) & William Neeley (1781 - 1837) and was one of at least nine siblings.

He was Christened Robert Sterit Neeley in Ohio, but this is thought to be a misspelling as his middle name was based on his Mother's maiden name Sterrett.

He was born in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, but his Christening was 1 Oct 1820 • First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, Fairfield, Ohio. His Mother's family also supports the Sterrett name and are interred at Mifflin Pennsylvania.
