Donald Ray Franklin was born in Houston, Texas to Warren and Juanita Franklin.

Following graduation from high school in Texas Donald served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War.

After his military service, Donald came to California to meet and marry the woman he had been corresponding with while in the Army, and embarked on a 32 year career with the California Correctional System working at several of the facilities in California, including Soledad, Tracy, Manteca, Coalinga, and finally at the Chowchilla Facility where he retired as the Facility's Plant Manager.

In his spare time Donald enjoyed bowling. In Madera he was a member of the Silver Fox Bowling Club and the Gateway Association. He was a former member of the Lions Club of Soledad.

Donald passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was just 62.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, and his twin brother Ronald.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, son, daughter, four grandchildren, and a sister.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Jay Chapel. Full Military Veteran Honors and interment followed in Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.

Remembrances may be made to the California Cancer Center of Fresno, 7257 N. Fresno Street, Fresno, Ca. 93720.
