Services were Saturday, Jan. 29, in Montgomery-Viets Chapel. Recorded music selections of "Wind Beneath my Wings" and "I Hope You Dance" were played. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Buffalo, under the direction of Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Betty Joyce Banks was born May 13, 1948, in West Plains, the daughter of James Sr. and Virginia (Konitz) Fisher. She died Jan. 26, 2005, in her home in Buffalo, at the age of 56 years, 8 months and 13 days.

She was raised in Independence and received her schooling at William Crisman. After graduating she began working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was an active member of the Salvation Army Church of Independence. The church was an important part of her life as she believed in helping others.

While living in Independence, she married. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Buffalo and began providing childcare in order to be able to stay home with her children.

She enjoyed singing, watching basketball, reading, caring for children and most of all spending time with her family. She was noted for her holiday decorating.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Fisher Sr.; one brother, James Fisher Jr.; and one sister, Joann Blakey.
