Obituary from old newspaper clipping, May 1926:

Chester H. Martin died at his farm home south of Watervliet Monday, May 10, at 11 a.m. of heart disease, aged 54 years, 2 months, 22 days, after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Martin had been in failing health for about two years and since February he was confined to the house.

He was born in Huron, N. Y., February 18, 1872, the youngest of four children of George and Martha Martin. When about seven years of age he came to Watervliet with his parents, at which place he has since resided, with the exception of about 15 years when he lived in Benton Harbor, where he was employed by Baker-Vawter Company.

In July, 1893, he was united in marriage to Ida S. Seron who, with two daughters, Mrs. F. E. Hones of Jackson and Mrs. Elmer Grice of Watervliet, survive him.

Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday at 2:20 p.m., Rev. W. E. Goitz of the Coloma Community Church, officiating. The pall bearers were all old friends of the deceased and were the following: Byron Peirce, Silas Tooley, John Hammel, Leon Case, Ed Austin and Orrin Price.

Mrs. Frank Geisler sang, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Does Jesus Care?"

Mr. Martin was a good neighbor, a genial fellow citizen and an industrious and capable worker. He had a pleasing personality that made him many friends and his passing in the prime of life is mourned by a large circle of friends as well as by those who were nearer to him through relationship.
