James Preston Tuley, son of Frank W. and Nora F. Tuley, was born near Ewing, December 28, 1901, and died October 24, 1935, at Belen, New Mexico, where he had been living for the past five years. He attended the St. Mary parochial school of Ewing and after finishing his course there, he assisted as station agent for the Q. O & K. C. railroad at Ewing and Taylor. In 1920 he was promoted to cashier at the office of the Q. O. & K. C. in Kirksville. In 1926 he went to Chicago where he learned the jewelry business and was engaged at this work until his health became impaired, and in 1930 he located in Belen, N. M. There he operat4ed a jewelry store and motion picture machine at a local theatre. His death was caused by a heart attack which occurred when he entered the operator's booth at the theatre at 7:30 p. m. on Thursday, October 24, 1935. Mr. Tuley was a member of the Ewing branch of the Knights of Columbus Council. Surviving him are his mother and father, Nora F. and Frank W. Tuley of Ewing; two brothers, John E. Tuley of LaGrange and Elijah Tuley of Belen, N. M., and one sister, Mary Ellen Tuley of Ewing. A sister, Catherine Tuley, preceded him in death in 1932. Funeral services were held by the Rev. P. J. Gilfillan at the Queen of Peace church in Ewing on October 29, 1935, at 10 a. m. Interment was in the Queen of Peace Catholic cemetery at Ewing.
