Jim Walker was the son of Thomas Albert Walker and Julia Adeline Osburn. He lived Wichita and worked for the Kansas City, Missouri and Orient Railroad before joining the Army at age 29. He served as an officer and locomotive engineer in France during WWI with the Military Railroad Service of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A letter from his fiancee indicates that he was still in Europe after the war.

Upon his return to the U.S., he married Grace Katherine Everhart on Nov. 19, 1919. He retired from the AT&SF Railroad in 1953 after 27 years of service as a locomotive engineer.

Jim Walker had two other siblings not shown below: Josie Lou Lydia Walker (b. 1896) and Rachel Lester Walker (b. 1901)
