Elvira Ide was born in 1830 in Lehman, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Oliver Ide (1798-1870) and Amanda Allen (1799-1876). She was married to Elmer Leslie Bennett (1821-1901) on 4 April 1850. The couple moved to Illinois sometime after the 1850 census. In 1860, Elvira, Elmer, and their two sons, Cecil Eugene and James Lafayette, were living in Ontario, Illinois.
