RITES HELD FOR HENRY ARP

RETIRED FARMER, 77, RAN HORSE-DRAWN MOWER FOR MANY YEARS

Funeral rites for Henry Arp, sr., 77-year-old retired Washington county farmer, were held at the Methodist church in Blair, Sunday afternoon. In failing healthy for a number of years, Mr. Arp died last Thursday at Omaha Methodist hospital.

A farmer most of his life, Mr. Arp operated an implement store in Bennington for six years. He became well-known to county farmers during an extended period of years when he operated a horse-power threshing machine.

The Rev. Sidney McCaig conducted the services and interment was in Bennington cemetery. Campbell Mortuary was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Born in 1867 in Germany, Mr. Arp came to Iowa in his youth. In 1885 he moved to Nebraska, and resided in Douglas county for a number of years before moving to Washington county. For more than 20 years, he lived in Blair and vicinity.

In 1889, Mr. Arp and Miss Meta Misfeldt were married in Blair. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Nov. 1, 1939.

Besides his widow, Mr. Arp is survived by five children: Fritz, Henry, Otto, Mrs. Louie Dornacker and Mrs. Albert Kuhr, all of Washington county. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, including two sons in the armed forces overseas; and one great-grandchild.
