Merle Harper and Joseph Ellis Barnes were united in Marriage on the 26 Feb. 1927 in Marengo County Alabama. They were the parents of four children.

Merle Harper Barnes, 95, of Linden died Thursday, September 28, 2000, at Marengo Nursing Home.
Barnes was born May 20, 1905, in Clarke County. She was a homemaker and member of Providence Baptist Church in Gallion.
Service was Saturday, September 30, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Patterson presiding and O Bryant Chapel Funeral Home directing. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Barnes is survived by one son, James Sug Barnes, and one daughter, Pat Vick, both of Gallion; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Donnie Cobb, Brian Petraca, Jason Johnson, Ben Ponder, J.T. Turnipseed and Jesse Langley.
Honorary pallbearers were the Progressive Sunday school class of Providence Baptist Church, staff and associates of Marengo Nursing Home and Southern Care Hospice.
