Jay Albin Mooney 86
Jay Albin Mooney was born on July 30, 1886 at Necedah, Wisconsin, the son of Jed & Mary Elizabeth (Holtslandet) Mooney, and he passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 1972 at the Community Hospital in Broken Bow, Custer Co. Nebraska, at the age of 86 years.
His early childhood was spent in Wisconsin, His parents in 1897 moved to Nebraska, living at Pender, Thurston Co. Nebraska and at the Omaha Indian Reservation. He attended the Grand Island Business College and later, in 1908 he homesteaded in Mayflower, McPherson Co.Nebraska.
In 1910 he married Otillie Wideman at Council Bluffs, Iowa, and they lived on the homestead until 1917. From 1920 to 1923, he and his brother operated the King Roller Mills in Mason City, NE until the flood waters washed out the dam there. Then he and Tillie moved to Grants Pass, Oregon. His wife died in Oregon in 1927. Her returned to Nebraska, and went into the trucking business with his brother Jed Mooney until he finally retired in 1955. He continued to reside in Mason City until his death.
He is survived by his brother Jed Mooney of Mason City, his niece, Verdna & Erroll Schue of Los Alto CA; two nephews, Jed H.& Glendora Mooney of Mason City & Jay W. & Leah Mooney of Sunnyvale CA.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sep. 1, 1972 at the Baptist Church in Mason City. The pallbearers wee Larry Rehn, Mike Mooney, Ronald Holscher, Dan Foley, Harvey Foley, and Dale Haller.
Bruial was in the Mason City Cemetery with Govier Bros. Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
