John H. Powers, 87, of 2341 S. 4th St. died at 1:25 a.m. Friday at St. John's Hospital. Born Dec. 19, 1888 in Connecticut, he was the son of Stephen and Claretta Hunter Powers. He is survived by his wife, Marion; four sons, John (Christine) and Thomas (Sherry) both of Springfield, Tyrone (Misako) of Jacksonville, N.C. and James (Patricia) of Jacksonville, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Jacqueline (Don) Southard of Taylorville, Mrs. Judy (Jim) Monahan of Springfield and Mrs. Peggy (Art) Carvalho of Somerset, Mass.; one sister, Mrs. Eva Ervin of Mattoon; 22 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one niece and one nephew. Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Ellinger-Kunz and Davis Funeral Home, Rev. Bluford, Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
