Death of G. W. Abrams
Gilbert W. Abrams was born in New Jersey, Dec 7, 1844. He came with his parents to Michigan when eight years old and located on the old homestead at Woodruff Mills where he resided until 23 years of age, moving to the old Miller farm south west of Brighton. After selling this farm to his brother Wilks, he resided in this village and worked in F.T. Hyne's eleveator constantly for 19 years.
Thinking the close confinement was detrimental to his health he resigned his position and was engaged in carrying mail between the trains and the post office for eight years.
Mr. Abrams was married to Miss Nevada J. Acker on Nov. 20, 1873.
For many years he has been in failing health, retired in his beautiful home in this village, and finally passed away Monday morning June 14, aged 64 years and six months. He leaves his wife, one brother Wilks Abrams of Kalamazoo, and one sister Mrs. Mary Woodhull of New Jersey, and a large circle of friends and neighbors to mourn his loss. An affectionate husband, an upright, industrious citizen, a kind, cheerful neighbor has passed away.
The funeral service was held at his residence Wednesday 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. W.D.Cole of the Presbyterian Church. Internment was in the old village cemetery.
