A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was an Army veteran of World War II and a farmer. He was a son of the late Gaston R. and Cennie Kingsmore Ferguson.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mary Bryson Ferguson; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ellen Justice of Waynesville; four step sons, Donald McElroy of Clyde, Joe and Bruce McElroy of Waynesville and Billy W. McElroy of Redonda Beach, Calif.; four brothers, Sam, Jim and Pete Ferguson of Clyde and Pearson Ferguson of Hot Springs; and three sisters, Mrs. Cauley Rogers and Mrs. Susie McKnight of Clyde and Mrs. Bess Moody of Waynesville.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church. The Rev. W. M. Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lawrence, Reeves, Willie and Jerry Ferguson, Billie Rogers and Robert Russell.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Garrett Funeral Home, Waynesville, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the services.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Bess Moody of 108 Sunnyside Road and requests that memorials may be made to the Haywood County Rescue Squad.
