EVANS, Eliza E. – Died, March 1, 1897 at the residence of her son-in-law, Robert Webb, Pea Ridge, Ark., Mrs. Eliza E. Evans, aged 78 years. Mother Evans was born in Bedford county, Tenn. Feb. 22, 1819. Was married to the late Carle Evans in the year 1840. Moved to Arkansas in 1852. To them were born five children, four of them, Mr. Wm. Evans, Mrs. Robert Webb, Mrs. Wm Breaithwait and Mrs. Robert S. Hickman are living in our midst well and favorably known to us all. She had thirteen living grandchildren and ten living great-grandchildren. These to her were all precious and living treasures. Often while her children were growing up she was heard to express a very great desire to live to see them grown and self-supporting. This desire she was permitted fully to realize – living not only to see her own children but her children's children living honorable, useful and Christian lives. Her meekly sweet, amiable and christian disposition made her an affectionate mother, a kind neighbor and a beloved and influential christian. She united with the C.P. Church of Pea Ridge in the year 1840 and was a good soldier of the cross, always exerting an influence for good over all who knew her. Though afflicted for many years and a great sufferer she bore it all waiting and murmuring not, passing away at the last as peacefully and as quietly as a babe into slumber. She was buried by the side of her husband and kindred at the Hickman cemetery on the 2nd inst. but the weather was so inclement as to prevent any but a very short service at the grave and the second Sunday in March at 11 o'clock at the C.P. Church on Pea Ridge a funerals service will be held when further respect will be paid to this long and useful life. P. Carnahan, Pastor.
