Lagant, Louis A. among the oldest French settlers on Beaver Prairie, was born in Moncourt, France, May 3, 1818 and was married in Belgium in 1845 to Marie Roseu. Coming to this country he settled in Bond county, Illinois and in 1851 his wife died, leaving him with a small daughter, five years of age, who died shortly after and a boy seven years old, Thoephilus, now living. On August 23, 1853, he married Anna Huenbel, with whom he lived 35 years. He died September 13, 1888 at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 10 days. Burial was at the Camp Ground cemetery north of Wisetown.
