Enlisted, April 8, 1909, in Troop 1, Squadron A Cavalry, New York, City. Served in the ranks and discharged from Squadron A in 1912. Commissioned, Lieutenant, Coast Artillery, February 27, 1912, serving in the 32nd Company, 8th Artillery District. He was placed on the reserve list, May 19, 1914 and resigned November 17, 1916.
