Joe Lee Abell, 56, of Newark, Missouri, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at his home. Born March 17, 1943, in Durham, he was a son of Steve James and Goldie Mae Wheeler Abell. He married Rosemary Ann Turner Jan. 10, 1963, in Durham. She survives. Mr. Abell was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ewing, where he particiapted in ISAAC Clown Troop, Van Ministry, Choir, Children's Church and other outreach ministries. He also was a board member of Quincy Crisis Pregnancy Center. Survivors also include three daughters Leanna Jo Franks of Novelty, Elizabeth Anne (Libby) White of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Theresa Elaine Abell of Kirksville; his mother Goldie Mae of Durham; three brothers Steve Abell, Bobby Abell, Jackie Abell; six sisters Hazel Smyser, Betty Perrine, Joan Powers, Marcia Bock, Linda Whitaker and Trudy Hicks; and six grandchildren Justin, Brice and Ryan Franke of Novelty, and Kailey, Allie and Derek White of Mt. Vernon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, one sister, two brothers and three nephews. Funeral services are Thursday, July 22, at 10 a.m., at the new Baptist Church Building west of Ewing on Highway 6, officiated by Rev. Tim Smith. Visitation was Wednesday, July 21, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home, Ewing. Music will be by David H. Parrish, Ola Gail Wilson and Ewing First Baptist Church choir. Pallbearers are Karl Franke, Gary White, Robert Sykes, Robert Reid Miller, Brian Wollbrink and Sam Gunter. Burial will be in Ewing Memorial Cemetery, Ewing.
