Virginia Joan Combs, 86, passed away at her home in Santa Maria, Calif., on Sunday, August 29, 2010 after a courageous battle with renal failure.
Ms. Combs was well loved and respected throughout the Santa Maria community, with special regard to the educational community, having taught numerous subjects and served as student counselor at Santa Maria High School and Righetti High School for many years, followed by a successful tenure at Alan Hancock College as a student career counselor for nearly 30 years until her retirement in 1993. She is fondly remembered by former students, faculty, Santa Maria residents and community leaders for her compassionate and tireless efforts in shaping the lives of those she taught and counseled. Her family and friends will miss her spirited and positive presence in their lives and the way she always treated others with a selfless sense of joy and compassion.
Ms. Combs is survived by her nephew, William Clipman and his wife, Shery Christopher of Tucson AZ.; her nephew, Steven Clipman and his wife, Annette and their children, Steven and Kate of Lancaster, PA.; her nephew, Craig Clipman of Santa Maria, CA.; her nephew, Michael Clipman and his wife, Jane Marie and their son, Noah of Reading, PA.; her cousin, Elaine Goodman of Orange County and Elaine's son, Mike Goodman and his wife, Janet and their sons, Vance and Wyatt of London, England; her cousin, Don Martin and his wife, Barbara and their children, Travis, Breanna, and Spencer of Orange County; her cousin, Janice Howie and Janice's husband, John Howie of Newport Richey, FL.
Ms. Combs will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Ballard, Calif., alongside her parents, Rezin L. Combs, 1889 - 1972 and Ragnihild Linnea Combs, and her younger sister, Marjorie (Combs) Clipman.
