EDWARD EARL JACOBS

JACOBS, EDWARD EARL, age 70, passed away on August 8, 2010, at his home in Auburn, GA.

Ed retired as a MSG (E-8) after twenty years in the US Army, including two tours in Vietnam, one tour in Korea, and ten years in Europe. The remainder of his service time was spent stateside, including seven years at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. Ed also retired from the US Postal Service, during which time he served as Postmaster in Kimberly, AL, and Clay, AL. He had lived most of the past twenty-five years in Birmingham, AL, and was a member of the American Legion, Post One.

He is survived by his spouse of thirty-seven years, Ronelle DeSmet Jacobs, and his six children: Edward (Kelli) Jacobs, Jr. of Auburn, GA; Deven Sheffield of Loganville, GA; Kelly Payne of Villa Rica, GA; JoAnn (Robert) Green of Douglasville, GA; Sharon Barber of Auburn, GA; and Kimberly (Phillip) Weaver of McCalla, AL. He is also survived by his sisters: Earline (J.M.) Goodwin of Gardendale, AL; Johnnie Fay Wilkinson of Mt. Olive, AL; and Betty (Donnie) Minyard of Forestdale, AL. He also leaves behind eight granddaughters and other extended family.

A family graveside service will be held on Monday, August 16, 2010, 2:00 p.m., at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL, with full military honors.
