Mr. Arthur was one of the most popular and prominent citizens of the City of Columbia. He was eminent as a Lawyer and had been elected an Alderman, and Senator in the State Legislature. Edward J. Arthur, Esq. and was Mayor of Columbia, SC where he served two years (1855-1857).
