Mrs. Purvis, a native of Lenox, Ga., had retired from the Norfolk public schools. She was a member of Hyde Park Free Will Baptist Church and was a graduate of Valdosta State University.
Survivors include her husband, James H. Purvis; two daughters, Gayle C. Daniel of Greenville, N.C., and Frances C. Wiedeman of Virginia Beach; a stepdaughter, Dawn P. Fogarty of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sons, J. George Carmichael of Houston, M. Albert Carmichael of Virginia Beach and Claude R. Carmichael of New York City; two sisters, Doris G. Goggans and Corrie G. Harpe, both of Lenox; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hyde Park Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry Beck. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Cox Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the church.
