Husband of Phyllis E ________.Robert Young, 81, of Tullahoma, Tennssee, formerly of rural Neoga, Illinois died Tuesday (Oct. 31, 2006) at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Neoga Memorial Cemetery, Neoga, Illinois. The Rev. Richard Coen will officiate.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at SwengelÐO'Dell Funeral Home, 520 Oak St., Neoga, Illinois.

Mr. Young was born April 3, 1925, near Neoga, Illinois a son of Max D. and Neva Higgins Young. He had four wives who preceded him in death: Phyllis Ralston of Neoga, Illinois; Martha Robertson of Tullahoma, Tennessee; Betty Delk of Shelbyville, Tennessee; and Mari Young of Mattoon, Illiniis. He most recently was married to Sara Crawford Young of Tullahoma, Tennessee. She survives.

Survivors also include three sons, Ronald Young of Franklin, Tennessee; Scott Young of Tullahoma, Tennessee; and Scot Robertson of Estill Springs, Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Roberta "Bobbi" Kingery of Mattoon, Illinois; five stepsons, Steve Young of Springfield, Illinois; Daniel Crawford, Matthew Crawford and John Crawford, all of Tullahoma, Tennessee; and Michael Crawford of Jacksonville, Flaorida; two grandsons; and a step-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a brother, and four wives.

Mr. Young was a graduate of Neoga Township High school. He was an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Northwestern University, where he received his undergraduate degree, a master's degree and in 1953, and a doctorate.

He then moved to Tullahoma in 1957 to succeed Joel Bailey as head of the UT-AEDC Graduate Study Program.

He was the first deputy director of the University of Tennessee Space Institute and a professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering.

Mr. Young was later named the first associate dean and director of UTSI's academic program.

Mr. Young returned to the classroom in 1978 and resumed his favorite role as professor. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Rotary Club, both of Tullahoma, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church.
