On July 13, 2016 Jesus spoke to Mr. William McCarthy Wheeler after a long illness and he answered. Mr. Wheeler died in Palmetto Baptist around 6:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 13, 2016, with his grandson nearby his side.
Mr. Wheeler was the son of the late William Wade Wheeler and Ella Mae Hall Wheeler of Batesburg, SC.

Mr. Wheeler was named after his father, and General McCarthy of W.W.II by his mother. He was born on March 17, 1944. Mr. Wheeler resided in Batesburg all of his life and was a member of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church and was active in the men's prayer breakfast every Thursday morning and supported the 50's plus club in the fellowship hall in the church. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Loretta Ibarra (Samuel) and Mrs. Kathy Lee Estrada (Armando); and grandson, Victor McCarthy Estrada who was by his bedside when Jesus came and who adored his Papa greatly. Also his fiancé, Jeanette Eargle, who only three days before the last onset of his illness was to become his beloved wife and was his comfort and caregiver during heart surgery. Mr. Wheeler is also survived by two sisters, Pam Gunter (Carl) and Debra Steele (Jessie). Mr. Wheeler was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Lola A. Wise (Frankie); Carolyn Kneece (Wyman); and two wives, the late Ethell Lee Smith Wheeler and Janie Wheeler all of Batesburg. Mr. Wheeler will be missed by many who knew of his kind and gentle spirit.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday, July 16, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, July 17 at Mt. Ebal Baptist Church with interment in Hall Town Cemetery on Highway 178 with Rev. Dr. William Paulling officiating. Active pallbearers will be William Gunter, Anthony Gunter, Russell Gunter, Adam Gunter, Matthew Kneece and Bud Wheeler. Honorary pallbearer will be Victor Estrada.
