John Andrew Meredith died September 3rd, 2010 in Las Vegas as the result of an automobile accident. John, aged 62, the youngest son of Robert and Edith Meredith, was born on January 25th, 1948 in Detroit Michigan. John was a lifelong educator who taught social studies at the Howell Public Schools for 30 years. In that time he was an active mentor to his students working as a leader for the Model United Nations early in his career, and later leading the Mock Trial team. He also was a strong advocate for his fellow educators acting as a union representative at his school for many years. John was a graduate of O'Rafferty High School and earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Michigan State University. He was a passionate singer and guitar player, who enjoyed many evenings and weekends creating, supporting, and collaborating with numerous local musicians. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Edith, his sister-in-law Kathy Meredith, and brother-in-law Robert Hemming. He is survived by his son John C. Meredith of Austin, Texas, his sister Ann Hemming of Toledo, Ohio, his sister Janet (Mike) Doyle of Brighton, and his brother, Robert Meredith of Livonia, nieces and nephews and close friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11th, 2010 at 11:00a.m. at St. Gerard Church, 4437 W Willow, Lansing MI 48917. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday at church. The family will receive friends Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Tiffany Funeral Home 3232 W Saginaw in Lansing. For those desiring, contributions may be made to Saint Vincent Catholic Charities.
