Vera was born in Salt Lake City on November 26, 1931, the daughter and youngest child of Vera Taft Callister and Alfred Cyril Callister, M.D.
Vera graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A., with high honors, in Political Science in 1957. She graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1963 and was a member of the Utah State Bar for the rest of her life.
Vera practiced law with the law firm of Callister & Nebeker and was senior law clerk for Justice E.R. Callister, and subsequently Justice Richard Maughan, at the Utah Supreme Court. She was proud to be one of the first one hundred women attorneys in the State of Utah.
Vera was married to Keith Badham and later divorced; Gleb Dmitry Kashin, and later divorced; and David McElhinney, from whom she was later divorced but who was her dear friend and companion until the end.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Cyril Taft Callister, M.D. She is survived by her children, Alan Taft Badham, Taffy Vera Badham, and Cindy Taft Kashin, and her granddaughter Amanda Ann Herbert. She is also survived by her sisters June Callister Beless and Denise Callister Quinn, M.D., and her brother Dale Taft Callister.
Friends may call on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street (00 South). Funeral services will be held at the same location on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 11:30 a.m.
Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
