REX ELLINGWOOD BEACH (1877-1949)
American novelist and playwright. Member of the American water polo team in 1904, winning a silver medal. First President of the Rollins College Alumni Association.
Wrote adventure stories, many taking place in Alaska. Novels include "The Spoilers" (1906) and "The Silver Horde" (1909), both of which were made into movies. 8" x 10" portrait photograph of Beach by Campbell Studios in New York.
The ashes of Beach and his wife Greta are buried on campus where a small marker near the Alumni House says simply, "Rex Beach and Greta Crater Beach."
