Jimmie Ruth Matthews Campbell, 83, went to meet her Lord and Savior Sept. 3, 2010. She passed away at Maple Court Senior Residence in Tifton.

Born in Tifton, she was the daughter of Robert Chapman Matthews and Georgia Ellen Willis Matthews, both deceased. She was married to the late Peter Gordon Campbell Jr. for 48 years.

A life-long resident of Tifton, she graduated from Tifton High School and was a member of First Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to serving God, raising her family and helping her community. She is best known for her love of people and her dedication to helping others. She proudly served as a Pink Lady with the Tift Regional Medical Center Auxiliary for 22 years (1984 - 2006) and retired with more than 10,000 hours of service. In honor of her service, she was admitted as a lifetime member of the Auxiliary. She was also a past recipient of the Good Neighbor Citation Award.

She is survived by her children, Peter Gordon Campbell III (Dana) of Jesup, Robert Chatman Campbell (Mitzi) of Hawkinsville and Cynthia Lynn Campbell of Powder Springs; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Matthews Bowen; and one brother, Fred Matthews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Memorial Chapel of First Baptist Church. Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate, with music being provided by David Bowen. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chamois Campbell, Gordy Campbell, Wayne Matthews, Bobby Cooper, Keith Myers, Eric Vickers, Matthew Bowen and Josh Bowen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Bowen, Lee Bowen, Bob Keith, Lee Wood, Wilbur Willis, Johnny Woodward, Hospice of Tift Area care-givers, Maple Court extended family and Georgia Living at Home care-givers. The Tift Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Pink Ladies and Red Coats will serve as honorary escort.
