Mahala Archer Thomas, was born June 14, 1861 in Noble County, Ohio, and departed this life Monday morning, Oct. 14, 1940, at the home of her youngest son, Raymond, in South Parkersburg, aged 79 years and four months. She was united in marriage to Cyrus W. Thomas on Jan. 17, 1885, he departed this life May 9, 1914. To this union nine sons were born of which five are still living: Wiley of Radnor, Ohio; Cicero of Marion, Ohio; Yancey of Sandyville; and Leonard and Raymond of South Parkersburg. Those decreased are, Odell, Maywood, Luther and Asbury. She leaves several grandchildren and some great grandchildren. She leaves also one sister, Mrs. Cynthia Archer of Sandyville, and three brothers, M.H. Archer of Sandyville, Robert Archer of Parkersburg, and Morris Archer of Westerville, Ohio. Mrs. Thomas' passing away was the last of the second generation of the Thomas family, now leaving only 18 living cousins. The funeral was conducted at her home church at Lockhart by Rev. R.L. Kelbaugh, of Parkersburg, Wednesday at 2 pm. Her granddaughters were the flower girls and her grandsons were the pallbearers. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Maddox Cemetery.
