Elijah was my paternal grandfather. He passed on several years before I was born. He was the son of James Wesley Crook (b Aug 12, 1841 in Doweltown, DeKalb Co., TN) and Sarah C. Sandlin Crook (b 1843). His first wife was Jane Loftin and they had one child, Marvin W. Crook (b Jan 1888). His second wife was Frances Ayers whom he married April 15. 1888. They had two children, Bessie Helen (b March 1892) and Jessie James Crook (b Oct 1893. He and his third wife, my grandmother, Nancy Jane Hindsley, married on Sept 7, 1898. Of this union was my Dad, Dallas Hardin, Dillard, Willie B. (Bill), Ray, Floyd, Mary, and Bertha. My grandfather was a farmer (as most men were then) and he died doing just that. He was found next to the cotton gin on the farm of Mac Crow.
