Sophie Fradkin Yambra, born October 24th, 1918, passed away Friday morning, September 18th at the age of 90. Born and raised in Galveston, she was the second of four sisters born to Rebecca and Nathan Fradkin. In 1942 she married Aaron Yambra, who predeceased her in 1977. Sophie enjoyed working for Nathan's Clothing Store and Shreiber & Miller Furniture Store. A member of Temple B'nai Israel, she also belonged to the Sisterhood, where she was famous for her cheesecakes and so many baked goods.

Her other favorite pastimes were playing canasta and her weekly poker game. What Sophie lacked in stature, she made up in her feisty disposition. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Judy Yambra, grandchildren, Amy and Gage Mueller, Steven Yambra, Lauren Yambra, Lisa Yambra, Tiffany Nolan and Sarah Hammett and two great grandchildren, Layla and Myles Mueller. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Alvin Abelman, her sister, Rose Edith Rosin, many cousins and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to Congregation B'nai Israel in Galveston, Congregation Beth Yeshurun, or Hadassah
