ELLIOTT ASH
30 December 1836 -- 6 April 1922
Age : 85 Years, 3 Months, 7 Days
Elliott Ash was born in Wayne County, New York, December 30, 1836, the son of John P. and Polly Widger Ash, natives of New York State. In 1848 the family moved to Wisconsin where Elliott attended the Evansville Seminary and also the Milton College of Old Milton, Wisconsin, where he also taught for several years. September 9, 1861, he enlisted at Janesville in the 13th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, Company A. After serving for more than four years he received his final discharge at San Antonio, Texas, on Dec 26,1865. In 1866 he came to Freeborn County, Minnesota, where he again taught school for several years. On June 13, 1868, he married Ophelia D. Hall whose death occurred the 15th of April, 1921. A son, Leslie Ash, at home, and a daughter, Mrs. Devillo Chamberlain, are left to mourn his departure. Funeral services were held at the farm home Sunday afternoon April 9. Rev C.L. Hocking officiated in the presence of a large attendance of neighbors and friends. A male quartette consisting of F. Holway, V. Kenison, A. Thisted, and R. Maas sang "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Interment was made at Albert Lea Cemetery in charge of Alden Post No. 404 of the American Legion.
