Thurman Calvin Jones, 83, of 1183 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, Md., formerly of Devonshire Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Ravenwood Nursing Care Center.

Born Dec. 9, 1920, in Boonsboro, Md., he was the son of the late Vinton J. and Edith Martz Jones.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Thelma Virginia Jones, in 1998.

He was very proud of his long and dedicated service with Fairchild Industries, retiring in 1983.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class.

He was a member of Fairchild Old Timers, West End Old Timers, United Auto Workers Union Local 842, Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown and AARP.

He was known for his warm and sincere smile at Ravenwood Nursing Care Center and won the Best Smile of the Year award.

He is survived by his daughter, Bernice Ann Wolfensberger, and her husband, David E. Wolfensberger, of Hagerstown; a son, Robert W. "Bobby" Jones, and his wife, Mary Ann Jones, of Hagerstown; a sister, Frances Jones of Boonsboro; a brother, Woodrow W. Jones of Boonsboro; four grandchildren, Leslie Casey, Karen Evanosky, Bradley Jones and Daniel Jones; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Madison Nicole Evanosky; a sister, Lela Hammond; and a brother, Merlin Jones.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert S. Barton officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
