Smiths Creek - D. Jean Hunter, age 84, of Smiths Creek, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 in Mercy Hospital after a short illness.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1919 in Port Huron, the daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Waters.
Jean was a lifelong area resident. She was a lifelong storekeeper at Hunter's General Store in Smiths Creek. She was Valedictorian of her high school class in Marysville.
Jean was beptized in the old Mt. Pleasant Church in the 1920's. Her grandmother hooked up the horse and buggy every Sunday to take her to church. Hard work was her life's commitment both on the farm and in her store.
Jean will be remembered by hundreds who bought their penny candy from her store. She touched the lives of so many by being a friend.
She is survived by her son, Bob Hunter of Bellview, Nebraska; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Fay Hunter of Smiths Creek; son, Bernie Hunter of Smiths Creek; granddaughter, Jill Hunter of Smiths Creek; grandson, David and Annette Hunter of Ocean, New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th St. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery on Tuesday.
