Joseph was the son of Joseph and Antoinette Piotrowski. He ran away from home at the age of 17 and enlisted in the US Army during World War I, during which he was injured several times. In Nov 1921 he married Blanche Przybyslawski and they had two sons, Edwin and Joseph. As a young man Joseph worked in the rubber mills of Trenton. Before, during, and after World War II he owned a flatbed truck that he hired out to local industries. Later in life he was also an animal warden for Hamilton, New Jersey. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Joseph died of lupus.
