FIZER, Melvin Garrett, 68, of Bedford, died Friday, October 30, 1998, at Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital. Born on July 22, 1930, in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Charles Henry Fizer Jr. and Pauline Burton Fizer. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles William Fizer. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Barton Fizer; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Fizer of Georgia, Charlene Dinwiddie of Bedford; three sons, Melvin Garrett Fizer Jr. and Jimmy Lee Fizer, both of Georgia, and Kevin Eugene Fizer of Bedford; two stepsons, Michael T. Barton of Omaha, Neb. and Carl B. Barton of Bedford; a stepdaughter, Rebecca A. Carter of Bedford; four sisters, Margaret Mabry of Upper Marlboro, Md., Marion Clary and June Tyler, both of Valentine, and Sheila Sweet of Thaxton; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home Saturday, October 31, 1998, from 4 to 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 1, 1998, at 2 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery at Colonial Baptist Church, Blue Ridge, with the Rev.
