Chris sold his farm in Wisconsin and moved his family west to California, settling in the Washington Township (later called "Broderick") district of Yolo County, just across the river from Sacramento. Here he continued farming and retired when ill health necessitated. He and his wife Mary produced eleven children, eight of whom lived into adulthood.
Their lineage continues into the 21st century, mostly in northern California.
