Essie McKenzie Freeman, 93, of Tellico Plains, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Woods Memorial Hospital.
A daughter of the late James and Lona Sue Smith McKenzie, she was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Freeman; one son-in-law, John Dixon; and three brothers, Clarence, John and George McKenzie.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Aileen and Burch Lee of Cleveland, Judy Dixon of Riceville, and Shirley and Paul Woods of Tellico Plains; three sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Ermazo Freeman, Kenneth and Faye Freeman, all of Tellico Plains, and Alden and Willie Mae Freeman of Reliance; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Eisenhower of Robbinsville, N.C., Kitty Kirkland of Maryville, and Janie Stephens of Reliance; four brothers, Jim McKenzie of Sacramento, Calif., Austin and Amos McKenzie, both of Tellico Plains, and Enos McKenzie of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Biereley-Hale Funeral Home with the Rev. Buster Lindner officiating. Burial will be in DeHart Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Biereley-Hale Funeral Home of Tellico Plains is in charge of arrangements.
