Civil War Union Army Brigadier General. Served as Colonel and commander of the of 51st Illinois Volunteer Infantry at the Battles of Island #10, at New Madrid, Nashville, and Murfreesboro in 1862. At the Battle of Chickamauga he commanded a brigade and was severely wounded. Promoted to Brigadier General, US Volunteers, and served in the Atlanta Campaign and the Tennessee Campaign. At the Battle of Franklin he was wounded once again. Bradley was the post commander at Camp Robinson (now Fort Robinson) in northwest Nebraska. He oversaw the infamous attempted arrest (and killing) of Chief Crazy Horse at that camp in 1877.
