He was a retired brakeman of the Burlington Railroad. He had worked for the railroad for 27 years.
He was a Navy veteran of both World War I and World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Edwin F. O'Brien and William R. O'Brien, both of Lamar; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn McHarness, Wauneta, Nebraska; a sister, Mrs. Pearle Swardson, St. Joseph; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Service arrangements are pending at the Heaton-Bowman 10th Street Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
