William F. "Shag" O'Brien, 77, died early this morning at Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar, Missouri. Born in St. Joseph, Mr. O'Brien had lived here until four years ago when he moved to Lamar.

He was a retired brakeman of the Burlington Railroad. He had worked for the railroad for 27 years.

He was a Navy veteran of both World War I and World War II.

Survivors include two sons, Edwin F. O'Brien and William R. O'Brien, both of Lamar; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn McHarness, Wauneta, Nebraska; a sister, Mrs. Pearle Swardson, St. Joseph; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Service arrangements are pending at the Heaton-Bowman 10th Street Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
